Choosing The Right Special Needs Therapist

As the parent of a child with a speech delay, a learning disability, or special  needs you have probably been to numerous therapists searching for the one who would be the most appropriate or effective with your child.

This search has been time consuming and expensive, considering that most have not been suitable for your child. The proof of this is that your child has not made the progress that you had hoped for. You were right to keep looking for a good therapist. Your child's future is too important to be wasted on an incompetent or inexperienced therapist.

So how will you know when you have chosen the therapist that is right for your child? You will know when your child starts to make positive and measurable improvements in their behavior, or shows immediate improvement in their speech and language, or shows a new confidence in their school work.

The best confirmation will be when other people; your family or friends; notice that your child is doing much better and clearly seems to be happier about life in general.

At ASL, we help children everyday to be the best that they can be. Our Clinical Director and staff have over 37 years of experience working with children who have learning disabilities, special needs, and speech delays.

They have an extensive background working with children diagnosed with Autistic Disorders ADD/ADHD, Central Auditory Processing Disorders, Receptive and Expressive Language Disorders, Speech and Articulation Disorders, and Reading and Written Language Disorders just to name a few.

If you are one of the many parents who continues to search for the right therapist and therapy program that will make a positive improvement in your child, than you owe it to yourself and your child to call ASL Pediatric Therapy Services at 954-295-1383 and schedule a Free Consultation for you and your child this week.

Coming to terms with a special needs diagnosis

There is nothing so joyful as the birth of a new child. The anticipation of what that child could become or will become is just one of a parents greatest dreams. Unfortunately many children do not take a normal path. They may have certain traits that seem unique or cute when they are little, but as time goes by they are no longer appropriate. It is often difficult for new parents to realize that their child is not meeting their developmental milestones or that their behavior is no longer socially acceptable.

Most parents will do their best to try to help their children adjust to situations, but this often results in parents just covering for children who can not function within the accepted norm. It takes a very strong and loving parent to seek an outside opinion concerning their child's development. No one wants to hear that their child is somehow delayed or impaired. However, this is a daily reality that way too many parents are forced to confront.

So you  just learned that your pride and joy; your beautiful child; the love of your life has a problem that may not go away by itself. Your first reaction of sadness is understandable. You and your child must face the reality that he or she may not be having that fairy tale life that you imagined.

Now what do you do? Who do you talk to? Your first course of action should be to get a complete evaluation of your child. Unfortuntately most people will tell you what your child's weaknesses are and not their strengths. This is where you need to step back and make a choice. Do I condemn my child to a life of failure, and disability or do I choose to empower my child with positive thinking and pursue the type of therapies that will give him or her a truly positive future. The ultimate choice is yours.

At ASL Pediatric Therapy Services, we know that all children are unique, and all need their own personalized therapy program. Our therapies are designed to enhance your child's strengths, and build their confidence. We know that the child with special needs will never quit on themsleves. Sadly it is the parent who runs out of steam. It is our firm belief that every child has a very wide window in which therapies can be the most effective. For most children this is from age 2 or 3 until 17 or 18.

If you are facing the need to educate a child who may have a learning disability or a speech delay please let us help you navigate this very confusing and often scary world. We have helped thousands of children and their families to lead positive lives.

2017 Summer Vacation Speech Therapy & Learning Program

ASL Pediatric Therapy Services is committed to stopping the dreaded "Summer Brain Drain" in learning disabled kids who are on vacation without any academic simulation.

Summer is the best time to re-enforce this past school year of learning. It is a known fact that kids can loose up to six (6) months of learning during the summer break. Don't let your child become a victim of "Summer Brain Drain".

ASL is able to create a customized learning program for every child. Many children from previous summer programs improved their reading skills by as many as two (2) to three (3) grade levels over the summer due to our reading and learning programs.

If your child could benefit from an academic experience now is the time to take action. Our programs are fun, and do not feel like regular school because your child will be working 1 on 1  with a professionally trained therapist or educator. They will feel success every day, and the best part is....NO homework for children or parents.

At the start of the learning program ASL tests all children to determine their current academic level. At the conclusion of the program we retest to measure the actual level of improvement, but you will notice immediately that your child has really experienced a positive change. They are much more confident and comfortable when dealing with academic and social situations.

ASL will be providing Speech-Language Therapy, Kaufman & Prompt Certified Therapy, Sensory and Reflex Integration Therapy, NeuroNet, Integrated Listening Systems (iLs), Social Skills Training, SOS Certified Feeding Therapy, Apraxia and Oral Motor Therapy, and Intensive Reading Therapy.

The 2017 Summer Vacation Speech Therapy & Learning Program begins on Monday June 19, 2017, and will run until Friday August 18, 2017.

Therapy sessions will be for 45 min., and run from 1:15 to 6:30 pm on M-W-F or T & Th.

We are looking to confirm all therapy sessions by Thursday, June 1, 2017.

If you are looking for an summer learning program that will make a positive and measurable improvement in your child's speech, language, articulation, academic performance, and behavior; please call our office today at 954-295-1383 to discuss all of your child's options, and to schedule a FREE preregistration consultation.
